I'm Back!

Yes, winter break is finally over for me. No more camping or 80 degree weather for me, now that I'm back in Boston for my second semester. Aside from my 9am classes for like 2 days, I think I'm going to love my new schedule. I don't have any classes on Tuesday until 5pm, so I could sleep all day if I wanted to.

I go away for a few days and look what happens...

Also, I accidentally joined a male vocal ensemble called the Y Chromotones today. I say accidentally because I thought I was going to a performance and I walked into the room and it turned out it was actually the first rehearsal of the semester. For some reason I stuck around, and now I'm rocking the bass (go figure). To my surprise, I didn't sing half bad, considering it was my first time ever in a vocal ensemble, and being totally unprepared at that. I think it's going to be a lot of fun, though.

Lets go backwards a little bit. On Saturday, The Uprising played at a firefighter benefit concert, and after a surprise camping trip, Ritchie, Cody and I ended up staying at a hotel with my mom and sister. Hilarity ensued.

And they had a pool on the roof, which was pretty classy.

I ended up playing the little Casiotone keyboard at the gig, and if you visit The Uprising page (link above) you can see videos of us playing for the benefit. I also developed an interest in skateboarding (more along the lines of longboarding, since I cannot do tricks for the life of me). Apparently electric skateboards are a thing now. And riding guitar amps down hills. And drum machines will ruin the show. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. (Which means twice.) Let me explain. Like always I happened to be muted on the sound board, and after going over to tell them to unmute me, they do. The only problem is that the drum machine on the keyboard was turned on. The first time it happened everyone got a good laugh because no one else was playing. Not the second time, though. The second time the drum machine started going off in the middle of a song and I helplessly ran over to my keyboard to turn it off. The moral of the story. Don't mute the keyboardist. EVER. He will hate you forever if you do.

THIS IS RELEVANT. I MAY POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN THE FIRST PERSON EVER TO LONGBOARD DOWN A HILL WITH A KEYBOARD AND PLAY THE SONG FOREPLAY IN ITS ENTIRETY. I feel accomplished. You should feel jealous.

Finally, on Sunday I wrote this song with some assistance from Brad. I guess you could consider this a demo of a demo, since this was the second take of me recording the song, and it is subject to change in the future. The main thing to focus on is the arpeggiated chords and the progression. The quality isn't that great, but I recorded this quickly and like I said, it was my second take.

Well that is it for this week. I'll try to be more diligent with the songwriting and do my best to get another one down by Sunday night.

Dear friends that surf,
Next time I come back to Florida we need to go barrel surfing like in Jackass. I don't care if we shouldn't try it at home, that looked fun as hell.
