As my first blog post, it may seem like I need to do some fancy introduction mumbo-jumbo, but I would rather just jump in feet first. This week has been a really busy week for me - some good things, some not so good things - but all in all signaling a coming change for me and my whole life. Here is whats been going on.
First things first, my 18th birthday was three days ago. Now I can be tried as an adult for committing a crime (but seriously, would I ever do that?) Hey! Don't make judgements! I could be a criminal if I wanted to, but in all honesty it isn't worth the time and the outcome isn't too great either. I am also able to enter the lottery and spend all my cash on tickets that will eventually make me bankrupt, but as wordswithcourtney (check out her blog!) mentioned, luck has kind of been with me in games of chance and strategy, with me "getting on the board" on the first roll in Bones, as well as dominating at Clue and Taboo (sometimes).
Second, my girlfriend Courtney (she's wordswithcourtney incase you couldn't figure that much out) left for college recently, and I miss her very much! She is a book fanatic and is also going to major in Music Education at the University of South Florida (Yikes! Thats a bit far from Boston!) and you can read her posts at this link here! (I am putting so many links to her page because she is amazing and has a lot of great stuff to say). She is a super amazing and beautiful girl who is fun and wonderful and I love her very much! Here is a picture of us at Chuckie Cheese's!
And here is one that is definitely more normal.
Thirdly, I've had a couple good jam sessions throughout the week. On Wednesday after youth group, me and FUSE jammed out to what I like to call a heavy metal hoedown as well as various rave music with me on keyboards. Second jam session was on my birthday with basically the same group of people, and once all the birthday hugs were out of the way (yes, Ritchie and Cody love birthday hugs), we got to jamming to more classic rock and hard rock with me on grand piano and eventually switching to drums.
The third jam session in my opinion was the best. My good friend Josh Irwin has been accepted into the music department at Belmont University in Nashville and him, Terry (owner of Vintage Guitar Closet and my former youth pastor and mentor), and a bunch of other guys got together and had a really fun blues jam. That was the first time I have ever played a Hammond organ, and although it was nearly ancient, it was really nice. All the musicians seemed to be on the next level of musical skills, so instead of feeling like the best one in the jam, I felt average at best, which is good because how else am I going to improve myself? All the guys there had good things to say about Berklee and Boston and how I would have so much fun up there. They even told me to wear all my best clothes and carry all my valuable possessions into Roxbury and count how long before the "vultures" come out and pick me clean! (It supposedly helps if I also have a nice watch with a second hand). That is something that is definitely good to know! It will definitely be so much different from the tropical suburban sprawl that is Florida. Oh, how I will I miss the beaches! And the warmth of the sun! Definitely that!
I write all of this lying on the sofa in pain because I also had all four of my wisdom teeth removed just hours ago and there is really not much else to do. On September 2, I will make my trek up to Boston with nothing more than a few clothes and my keyboard to begin my new life, which I have mixed feelings about.
I will make later posts about different music reviews. If anybody is out there, I WILL TAKE RECOMMENDATIONS for reviews, whether it is just a song or a whole album. Well that's about it! I look forward to posting again really soon!
